Councillor Anastassia Judas

Greetings! My name is Anastassia Judas, and I am delighted to share my journey with you. I was born and raised in the heart of Yellowknife and Dettah, NT, where my community’s vibrant cultures and rich traditions have shaped the core of who I am.

My proud parents, Angus Charlo, and Bertha Mackenzie provided a loving foundation for my upbringing. I am fortunate to carry the legacy of my grandparents, Helen, and Alexie Mackenzie of N’dilo and Joseph and Judith Charlo of Dettah, who instilled in me a deep appreciation for our roots and the strength that comes from embracing our heritage.

In my adult life, I am honored to be a loving partner and a parent to four wonderful children. Recently, my family and I made the heartfelt decision to return to my hometown of Dettah, a move that has filled our hearts with joy. It is a homecoming, a return to the familiar landscapes that shaped my childhood and the community that holds a special place in my heart.

Education has been a crucial part of my journey. I hold a certification in financial accounting, complemented by on-the-job training in business and financial economics. Over the years, I have earned various leadership training certificates that have been instrumental in my professional growth. These educational pursuits have paved the way for a successful career, and I currently serve as an Indigenous Patient Advocate for the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

My professional trajectory includes a decade-long commitment to the NTHSSA’s Medical Travel Department, where I gained valuable experience in navigating the intricacies of healthcare logistics. Prior to that, I contributed to the economic development of our community through my role at Deton’ Cho Corporation. Starting as a financial clerk, I worked my way up to the position of finance manager, a testament to my dedication and perseverance.

My deep connection to our people’s values, cultures, language, and traditions has been a guiding force throughout my life. It has fostered in me a profound appreciation for the unique challenges faced by our communities. This appreciation, coupled with an ardent desire to contribute to the well-being of our people, has been the driving force behind my professional endeavors and community involvement.

In a recent honour, I was elected as a council member for our First Nation. This new responsibility is a testament to the trust placed in me by our community, and I am committed to making positive decisions that will help our communities thrive.

As I embark on this new chapter, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me and enthusiasm for the contributions I can make to the well-being of our community. Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about my journey, and I look forward to the adventures yet to come.

Mahsi Cho!
