Yellowknives Dene First Nation has been delivering a gardening program for many years in both Dettah and Ndilo. Dechita Naowo began managing these programs in 2015. Greenhouses were added to the gardens in both communities in 2015 and 2016 and additional garden plots were added in 2020. The greenhouse in Dettah was built by Dechita Naowo’s Construction Basics students.

Every year, community members are invited to sign up for a garden and or greenhouse plot. Some restrictions are in place due to COVID-19, however, outside garden plots are still available for members.

Some plots are maintained by the youth for the elders and others in the community. Produce is shared with Community Wellness for distribution.
